Notes on 1934 Estimates.

HONG KONG

BUILDINGS.

Sub-head 1-New Government Civil Hospital, $600,000.—To complete general site development and cover the cost and erection of steel framework of the main hospital block.

2.-Market: Wanchai, $60 000.-The scheme is to reprovision Wanchai market on a site below the Naval Hospital and opposite the existing market. The existing building which consists of $4 stalls is old and congested. The new market will be a two-storey closed building containing 100 stalls and caretaker's quarters, etc.

3.---Market: Bowrington Canal, $18,000. This market was referred to in Notes on Estimates 1933. page 1, sub-head 3. The building will be of the two-storey open type with caretaker's quarters etc. and will now consist of 24 stalls. The proposed site is on Canal Road West approximately opposite Tang Lung Street.

4.-Market: Arsenal Street, $18,000.-This market was also referred to in last year's Notes on Estimates at page 1, sub-head 4. The proposed site is at the junction of Arsenal Street and Lockhart Road. Accom- modation will comprise 24 stalls and caretaker's quarters etc. in an open type building.

5.-Latrine and bathhouse at junction of Hennessy Road and O'Brien Roads, $3 000.-This work will be completed and payment of this sum is for retention money.

6.--Upper Levels Police Station, $50.000.-The construction of this station has been long delayed. The proposed building is sited between High Street and Hospital Road approximately on the area occupied by the old Police Training School. It will be five-stories in height and comprise, in addition to the usual station accommodation, four flats for European married officers, quarters for six single European officers, sixty Indian and sixty Chinese policemen and interpreters.

7.—Senior Officers' Quarters, May Road. $100,000.-To provide quarters for twenty Senior Officers on a site immediately below May Road Tram Station. The quarters will consist of two blocks each five-stories in height and containing in all five 5-roomed, ten 4-roomed and five 3-roomed flats. The expenditure in 1934 will principally be in connection with site development and foundations etc.

8.-Quarters at Peak Wireless Station, $20,000.--To provide accommoda- tion consisting of twelve single rooms with kitchen and lavatory premises for Chinese operators. At present full use cannot be made of the station owing to lack of quarters.

9.-Furniture Workshop and Store, $27,000.-A two-storey building of

light construction sited adjoining the P.W.D. Store at Bullock Lane The ground floor will be used as a workshop and the upper floor as a furniture store.
